Material Handing Division Field/Shop Service Technician

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Field/Shop Service Technician to join our team in our Material Handling Division. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining forklifts, pallet jacks, sweepers/scrubbers, generators/compressors, scissor lifts and aerial platforms, batteries and chargers and hydraulic & pneumatic systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to work independently while providing exceptional service to our clients.

Essential Functions

  • Performs routine maintenance, inspections and repairs on forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Prepares and repairs rental equipment to ensure reliability and peak performance.
  • Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, ensuring timely and effective repairs.
  • Replace or repair defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Interprets fault codes and schematics for accurate troubleshooting.
  • Performs load testing and safety inspections to verify proper functionality.
  • Maintain accurate records of service performed and parts used during each job and orders necessary parts to complete service.
  • Performs on-site repairs and maintenance at customer locations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in automotive diagnostics and diesel engine repair.
  • Proficiency in using power tools and understanding their safe operation.
  • Familiarity with air brake systems and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to read schematics for effective problem-solving.
  • Experience in heavy equipment operation is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clients effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in various environments.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed trade school or have some background in automotive or on road diesel.
  • Have own basic tools, and valid driver’s license.
  • Good mathematical skills to include simple formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules and wiring diagrams; use of adjustable measuring instruments; checking of reports, forms, records, and comparable data where interpretation is required.
  • Over 3 months up to and including 12 months of experience in heavy equipment.
